BB-355: Business Policy & Strategy

Course Description

This course aims at developing a student’s critical thinking business skills.  This course includes a study of strategic planning including mission statement development, analysis of the external environment and internal organizational factors, development of strategic alternatives, selection of appropriate alternatives, implementation of strategies, and competitive strategies and dynamics. Special emphases are given to the integration and coordination of the functional areas within the enterprise. The case method will be used to provide practical experience in analysis and decision making in the solution of business problems.

Course Learning Outcomes

At the completion of this course, a student will be able to:

  1. Develop business landscaping mapping strategies
  2. Develop the critical thinking skills needed to perform external and internal analyses of organizations and their competitive environment.
  3. Demonstrate the ability to apply the management tools required and analyze the data generated from the tools to ascertain organizational performance.
  4. Demonstrate the ability to develop strategy formulation as part of a strategic management process comprising the three phases: diagnosis, formulation, and implementation.
